Environmental Policy

Environmental Policy

Lowering our carbon footprint and minimising our environmental impact. We believe any small change is still a change we are always looking for ways to improve and reduce and we would like to share with you a snippet of what we are doing

  • All our lighting is low energy LED and you’ll notice that the lights in all the toilets switch off when they’re not needed. The building is temperature controlled so on warm days we’ll use even less energy.

We buy all our coffee from a sustainable provider. It is 100% traceable and ethically sourced from fairly paid growers.

  • Used coffee ground composted rather than in the general waste
  • We recycle all food waste, cans, bottles, paper, card, carrier bags and glass.
  • We reduce water use with automatic sensor taps and low flush cisterns fitted in the toilets. We use warm air driers (not paper towels) to reduce waste apart from the disabled/baby changing toilet as the noise from the appliance is not suitable for some of our guests.

We have replaced all single use plastic food packaging with plant based compostable alternatives and utilise reusable items wherever possible and items are bought in bulk to reduce packaging waste

We’re aiming for zero waste so our energy reduction policy is ongoing. If you spot other ways we could use less energy, please help by mentioning it to any member of staff or email us on hello@planbarnrmf.co.uk

Waste

  • Email and telephone are used, where appropriate, rather than paper-based communication
  • Compostable waste is put on the compost heap
  • Recycled products are used where possible e.g. toilet rolls and stationery
  • Items are bought in bulk to reduce packaging waste

Energy

In transforming the original agricultural building into the The Play Barn as it is today, we were lucky enough to be able to take advantage of some of the latest building practices and systems to make the building and running of the building as energy efficient as possible, some of which highlighted below.

  • LED lighting throughout replacing traditional halogen.
  • Complete new install of insulation with the u-value achieving regulation standard.
  • Windows are double glazed and draft free
  • All pipework insulated
  • Building now all temperature controlled maximising efficiency.

Free Plentiful Parking

We are lucky enough to be able to offer our customers free off-road parking on our own private car park directly outside The Play Barn. This is for the sole use of customers of The Play Barn.
